Secret Santa 2012

Welcome to Secret Santa 2012!

Here for yet another year it's Elftown's very own Secret Santa! The idea is the same - everyone who wants to draw, paint, photograph, or write etc. a present for someone else and receive a gift in return, sign up below!

How does this work? You will be assigned to make a present for one of your fellow participants, (who you are making your present for should remain a secret!). In turn, someone will be assigned to make a present for you! But please note: you will not receive the present made for you if you don't submit the present you were supposed to make!

Sign up ends on December 2nd. Tell your friends to join, too - the more the merrier! Just use the 'invite' button to invite everyone you think would like this idea to come and have a look.

So, here's what to do:

1. Sign up below, listing your username, and any hints you may have for what kind of Christmas present you'd like (not giving hints is cool too). If it's a character of yours you're hinting at, you need to post a link to a description/picture on this wiki - because obviously, you won't know who is drawing your present, so you won't be able to give them the info yourself.

2. On the 3rd, you will receive the name of the person for whom you will be making a present. Don't forget to check to see if they gave a hint about the kind of thing they like, but don't be disheartened if you don't think you can draw what they hinted - they're hints to inspire you, not demands.

3. Get your creation in by the 24th of December! Send the completed piece to [wicked fae mage].

4. [wicked fae mage] shall send everyone their present on the 25th, around midday Elftown time. Receive your gift, be thankful, merry and spread festive spirit!

Rules:

1. The art/writing/photography/pumpkin carving etc. must be 100% your own! See rule 4 for more information about photomanipulations.

2.Please put some effort into it. How would you feel if you got a present and it was clear it was a half-assed job they didn't care about? Don't submit drawings on lined-paper, or crappy camera phone photos etc. - they won't be accepted, and you won't receive your present, either.

3. If you don't submit your present, you will not be allowed to enter Secret Santa the next year. See Secret Santa 2011 2 for a list of those not allowed to enter.

4. Photomanipulations are allowed but if you choose to do a photomanipulation please place the piece on a wiki, along with all the relevant stock information, and send the link to the wiki to [wicked fae mage].

5. Images must be uploaded to Elftown.

6. No whining. It's Christmas. And this page is about giving and receiving presents. Only positive thoughts are allowed here.

FAQ:

Q: Will my Santee be the person who is making a present for me?
A: Of course not - then it wouldn't be very secret, as you'd all know who your Secret Santa was. This also explains why we don't need an even number of entrants. :)

Q: Oh no! My Santee has asked for something I can't make! What do I do?
A: Stop panicking. The hints expressed are just that - hints They're not lists of "these are the only things I like and if my present isn't one of these things I shall hate it." They're just there to help you get some inspiration as to what they might like. Another source of inspiration is your Santee's Elftown House. The most important thing is to make the gift personal to them. :)

Q: My Santee said they wanted a drawing and I'm a writer! They'll hate my present, what do I do?
A: See above. Stop panicking.

Q: I was thinking of making my Santee a model or a teddy or something like that. Is that allowed?
A: If you want to do something like that message [wicked fae mage] about it, and she will get in touch with your Santee to see if they mind giving you their address. If you do post it, make sure to send it recorded delivery so that it doesn't get lost!

1. [Aeolynn] - something dragon or fantasy. I always love fanart of my OC's but anything I receive is fine :)
2. [Flisky] - My most recent love has been Star Trek, more specifically Spock. So...anything involving Spock would be great. Barring that, I'm pretty easy. Story or drawing, I'll love it either way.
3. [Roma] I want a rendering (story, doodle, poem, anything) of a Russian folk tale that is completely of the artist's imagining. If I am so inclined, I shall incorporate it into my posts with Korvka Shostakovich in my beloved X-Men RP. I don't want a picture/story of HER, just a rendering of a hopefully dark and frightening wives tale from the "Motherland/brain of the artist."
4. [Artsy] - I like art that is not quite... right? Such as the psychological twist in American McGee's Alice video game or, as I recently discovered, the A-babies vs. X-babies comic book. Something about it is obviously off and that's the interesting twist. Anything I get, I'd just like it to be your original idea/take on the holiday.
5. [Ravendust]- I would like artwork from backwards outcasts. Draw whatever you please- even a scene from one of the stories! :) Either way, I'd be happy with anything!
6. [Nocturnaliss] - I love Dragons. Which I basically mention every year XD but if you want to make me extra merry, I have characters that can be drawn too. All sorts of links to be found on my house ;)
7. [XxTsomexX] - I would love a picture of one of my three characters in X-men rp… they are Endelyn Hagan, Jonas McKimmly, and Zeke Savage.
8. [Yuriona] - just about any fantasy/mythical monsters like dragons and gargoyles, lost cities of legend and other mysterious places that spark imagination, dark elven warriors and weaponry, or anything from the Halo universe as I am a Master Chief fangurl big time. :D
9. [nehirwen] - something gothic, or a dramatic landscape in any style.
10. [Yncke] - Im happy with anything, but if you're looking for inspiration, perhaps something Per'Bat related?
11. [Ms. Steel] Surprise me. :-)
12. [EnigmaXero] - Anything Celtic related, Druid, Faeries/Magic. Dragons or phoenixes, angels, demons. Gothic. I'm not too picky. :D
13. [The Dizzy Raven] dragons, gryphons, anything fantasy, dark. Owls, ball pythons, crested geckos, bearded dragons, reptiles in general,

2012-11-30 [EnigmaXero]: I, too, agree with Nocturnaliss. I'm not good at drawing at all. I can somewhat write, but it's harder to write for someone else than for myself. I'm best at making fractals (as usually seen on my house), but not too many people seem to know about them/recognise it as art.

2012-12-11 [Artsy]: I'm about in the same boat, Nocturnaliss. I'm making it in Illustrator and I know what I want to do because I know what Illustrator can do, but I don't know how to do it. ^^' There's a lot of learning involved.

2012-12-11 [Nocturnaliss]: Oh I've tried to use Illustrator before... it seems like such a powerful tool, but the learning curve's a bit daunting. I've seen some awesome stuff being done with it. Again, feeling like a fail. XD

2012-12-11 [Nocturnaliss]: I try to keep positive, though it's been a bit hard lately. In the end, all you can strive for is to be happy in life. That's hard enough to achieve. Once you do, though, you find it stimulates people to be happy, themselves, or to at least strive to be.

2012-12-11 [EnigmaXero]: That's very true. I try to be positive about it. I love the energy that comes from holidays, but I hate how commercial they seem anymore. At least over here. It's always about buying someone the most gifts, or the most expensive gifts, instead of just sharing the day with your loved ones and being thankful for what you have. I love presents, but I don't care if I don't get but maybe one or two. Someone can get me notebooks or notebook paper, pencils, and pens, and I'd be happy.
